Your thoughts and prayers are appreciated. Many people wanted a place to leave a kind thought or word of encouragement. Here’s your chance! And thanks for your love, thoughts, prayers and well wishes for Shawn.
Dear Bowen Family,
I look into Shawn’s sparkling eyes and trust that God will preserve that sparkle. I worked with a family whose oldest son had two forms of leukemia at one time. His chances were only 25%. I did pain control exercises with him, so I saw him often. Sometimes I would cry all the way home. He was older…15…but still I prayed that God would find it in His plan for Martin to stay with us. He is now 32 years old, is married and is a nurse practitioner working with children who have cancer.
What I want you to remember is that sometimes we’d think he was too weak to survive, but God pulled him through. I pray that Shawn will have an easier path. You will have my prayers.
Shawn is a beautiful boy. These are tough times but many people are lifting your entire family up. May the road be easier than you imagine. May Shawn’s cure happen fast. Blessings to you all.
We will keep you guys in are hearts and minds through this difficult time.

I’m so very sorry to hear the diagnosis for my little buddy, Shawn. You all have been such wonderful neighbors! I’ve enjoyed the whole family as we’ve chatted and walked our dogs this summer. So I sure wish you didn’t have this battle ahead of you.
You’re definitely in my thoughts and prayers. I’ve started calling on my prayer warriors tonight. And soon, they’ll be calling on their prayer warriors so you’ll have bunches of people praying for you.

Dear Shawn,
I know you are going through alot right now but I know that you will make it through this. I see that you are a soccer player. Just think when you get out of there and get better, you will be able to get back on the field and do what you love. Also Louisville basketball season is coming up here soon and they should be pretty good. You’ll get to watch them on TV and cheer them on. You have alot of things to look forward too. Just keep fighting. I know somebody that had Leukemia and she bounced back and is doing very well. I know you will do the same.
You have a very strong family. I’ve met your dad and he is a great person and so is your mother. Your aunt’s and uncle’s are very supportive as well. You should see the several hundred people that are helping you and your family out. They all care about you and your family and are doing whatever they can to make your lives easier. Get better little guy and keep cheering the Cardinals on.

I am a stranger to all of you. But when I came across this story on a Kentucky sports website, my heart dropped. Having gone through two cancer situations in the past year with my mother and grandfather, I understand part of what you’re going through. Keep God close to your heart and never underestimate the power of prayer. You’ve got more people than you know, praying for you. Best wishes.

I do not know you, but Jen is a good friend of mine. You are certainly in our prayers and hearts. My husband had prostrate cancer and I had breast cancer not long ago, so we understand the emotions as well as the fianacial burdens that such an experience can bring. I also work in Young Womens at church with a girl (now 17) who had Leukemia and age 5 and then a recurrance at age 8. She lost all her hair, the whole nine yards, but she was a fighter. She is now healthy and normal in every way. She is a delight to all and especially in tune with how others feel. I think her cancer experiences made her that way. Good luck to you…and may you also beat this disease.

Hi, Shawn! I just met your mom and sisters at GirlScouts a few weeks ago. They had their meeting at my house. Gina was here when your mom told her the news and we immediately prayed for you and your family and will continue to do so. Just remember that God is always there and he loves you very much. Hi Shawn (and your Family),
A friend of mine knows your family and forwarded the email to me. I just wanted to let you know that my daughter went through the exact same thing you are going through right now. She was diagnosed with ALL a month before her 4th birthday. She’s now in remission, and doesn’t have to take any more medicine. You’d never know she was sick. She’s turning 7 in December, and is in grade one, loving life and school. You stay strong, and it’s Ok to feel yucky sometimes, it’s the just the medicine fighting the bad blood cells in your body. The treatment gets easier as you move through the protocol. You can email us any time if you have any questions, we went through it all.
